Kansas City International Airport Reports April 2023 Passenger Traffic
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 905,881 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in April, an 18.8-percent increase from April 2022. Passenger boardings were up 18.8 percent, with a total of 450,758 boarded. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 1,671,118, up 22.7 percent. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 3,351,809, up 22.5 percent.
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at Kansas City International were down 15.4 percent in April with a total of 17.7 million pounds handled. Year to date, 76.8 million pounds of air cargo has been handled, down 9.3 percent. Air freight handled at Kansas City International during April amounted to 16.9 million pounds, down 18.1 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is down 10.9 percent with a total of 74.4 million pounds handled. Air mail for April was up 190.2 percent from April 2022 with 788,980 pounds handled. Air mail year to date for 2023 is up 98.1 percent from 2022 with 2.4 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for April 2023 was 145. Service was offered to 47 nonstop markets. There was an average of 38,863 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 8 daily departures for April.
The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Mo., and is supported wholly by airport user charges. No general fund tax revenues are used for the administration, promotion, operation, or maintenance of the airports in the system.
