Kansas City International Airport Celebrates its Busiest Year Ever with 12.1 million Passengers Served in 2024

The Kansas City Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport (MCI) served 12,126,500 total passengers in 2024, up 5.0 percent. A total of 968,252 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in December, a 4.9-percent increase from 2023 and was MCI’s busiest December ever. December passenger boardings were up 6.1 percent, with a total of 494,279 boarded. There were 6,055,445 passenger boardings in 2024, up 5.1 percent.

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at Kansas City International were up 7.7 percent in December with a total of 24.1 million pounds handled. For 2024, 268.7 million pounds of air cargo was handled, up 13.1 percent. Air freight handled at Kansas City International during December amounted to 20.7 million pounds, down 7.5 percent year-over-year. For the year, air freight was up 8.2 percent with a total of 252.8 million pounds handled.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for December 2024 was 170. Service was offered to 51 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,175 arriving and departing scheduled seats in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 11 daily departures for December.
